What really matters about the new "search wars"*

Do you have to care about the looming battle between Google and Microsoft ?
For your business I bet not, see my report on Enterprise Search

I am Project Leader/Consultant and have been for a long time, but I do not have at all the mindset of a true computer geek. For instance I am absolutely not interested in video games but rather
  • in Chinese civilization (Lao tzu, Chuang Tze, Lie Tzu, the Taoists and Tchan Buddhists).
  • in epistemology and the philosophy of sciences (Feyerabend, Lakatos, Quine, Peirce,Michel Bitbol,Stuart Kauffman)
  • in evolutionary psychology, on this subject, I recommend NIBBSthe excellent daily survey by Ian Pitchford.
  • in the constructivists (Bateson, Watzlawick, Von Foerster,Von Glaserfeld) and in the early cybernetic (Ashby, McCulloch).
  • in some contemporary french philosophers (Jean-Joseph Goux,Jean-Pierre Dupuy, Michel Henry,François Jullien
  • For short, not very advisable things for a "techno" executive, but, as on the side I have made intensive technology watch for more than 20 years on artificial intelligence and knowledge representation, when (thanks to the arrival of Internet), I can shove my oar in, it shakes, because I know what I am talking about!

My favorite movies column, an update is long overdue...(French only, sorry)

About the "rest of the world"

    A fierce controversy:
    What is it about?
      Doubting already
      Gonna hit the wall
      Oh, yes, I say so!
      No way!
      Concluding...
Peer-to-peer Interoperability of Ontologies(some way out, may be)
More details   more...   more...   more...   more...   more...
Nailing my colors to the mast!
      Related tech stuff
      A discussion...
    Worries and confusion
What "meaning" means?      Heterogeneity       Google's Sergey Brin doesn't believe in the semantic web
Oldies (Nov 2000 ;-) but goodies, Christopher Manning's Information Pragmatics [PPT]
    Wondering about Ontologies?
    John Bateman's ontology portal
Why and how to use an Ontology
What are the differences between a vocabulary, a taxonomy, a thesaurus, an ontology, and a meta-model?
Ontologies are too awkward, specially in RDF (Yeah, hand crafted and not interoperables!)
Dynamic Ontologies Very well stated, but after 3 years nothing happened yet.
*** WARNING *** these are just linked in order to give you some introductory materials,
the views and explanations in the above links are the opinions of their respective authors.
I DO NOT SHARE many of them, specifically all the philosophical assumptions.
(Actually, they are making a mess of it, what we need is MUCH SIMPLER)

A question mark hangs over the future of the Semantic Web, will it turn into dot.com ?
    Catching the Dreams ? Kinda goofed already!<Updated Tue, 21 May 2002 17:33:45 -0400 (EDT)>
